Curriculum

Students are encouraged to make the most of their academic abilities throughout their school life.  A broad and flexible range of subjects is offered to prepare students for university entry.  Progress is closely monitored by teachers and the  sponsors of each class. There is continuous communication between teachers and parents through parent/teacher meetings.

Students are tested and graded on their academic work each semester and final examinations are held at the end of the academic year.  Parents are invited to discuss the progress of their child twice each semester; once at an interim meeting and at the end of each semester to collect their grades.

Each subject is graded on a scale of 1-100, with a passing mark of 50.  The academic year is divided into two semesters and students receive grades for each semester. The semester grades are added to the final examination grade and divided by 3 to form the final general average of the year. In non-examination subjects, the final general average is the average of the two semesters.

Final Examinations count for one third of the final general average. A minimum final examination grade of 40% is required in order to be promoted to the next class. A student is promoted to the next class when he has passed all subjects:

• A pass means that the student’s final general average is at least 50% and he has also obtained a minimum of 40% in the final examination grade in the subject
• A student will be re-examined in September if his general average is below 50% in one or two subjects only, or if his final examination grade is below 40%
• A student fails the class if he gets a general average below 50% in three or more subjects or if he obtains under 40% in three final examinations, or if he fails any deferred examination or re-examination in September
• Students may only repeat a class once
